Holiday Hair Care

Updated: Apr 7, 2019

Holiday season is here, and between busting your butt for that perfect bikini bod and gathering all those suitcase essentials, it’s easy to forget that your hair extensions need some TLC too!

To find out how you can take care of your beautiful Extensions on Holiday we have created the best aftercare guide for you to take with you!

#1 TAKE ARGAN OIL AND MASKS SUITABLE FOR HAIR EXTENSIONS WITH YOU Hair oils and masks are amazing for retaining the moisture in your Hair Extensions, which is vital as you are being exposed to higher temperatures and other elements that suck the moisture out of hair, such as chlorine, salt water and the sun, so the oil/ masks will play a massive role in keeping your extensions touchably soft.

Remember when using oil use a tiny amount as too much can clog the hair cuticles up and can create a knotty mess. For the masks take some leave in Nioxin Deep Treatment with you to put a tiny pea size in your wet hair as a leave in conditioner OR one of our Maria Nila Treatments to leave in for an hour or so before washing off whilst you are topping up that tan before getting ready for your afternoon siesta or night out! #2 TAKE AFTERCARE PRODUCTS At Emily Jane Hair, we always recommend the best products that work well with the extensions we have supplied you with, so please follow our advice. Products such as shampoos and conditioners that contain sulphate can tend to be very drying and essentially sucks the life and moisture out of your Hair Extensions. Do not be lazy and use something else because you ran out or cannot fit it in your luggage! Take travel size pots.

Another fab product to use for hard water areas you are travelling to is the Malibu C Hardwater range as this stops the copper in water and sun rays discolouring and drying out your hair! You can purchase this upon request with Emily Jane Hair. #3 DO NOT SLEEP WITH WET HAIR EXTENSIONS We have mentioned this tip a couple of times to our clients, so it doesn’t just apply when you are on holiday. When on holiday it’s tempting to just simply leave your hair wet after a swim and go to bed- we get it! But think about things in the long run. We highly recommend that you ensure your Hair Extensions are completely dry, then either pack it into a ponytail or secure it into a braid before going to bed. Drying your hair makes sure your hair is nice and smooth and not a frizz ball nightmare! #4 BOOK FOR A MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENT WHEN YOU GET BACK FROM HOLIDAY When you have returned from holiday, it’s a good idea to you book and schedule a maintenance appointment with us. At the appointment, we can see if your Hair Extensions have been damaged in any way, and we can try advise and fix it straight away, so you can have beautiful Hair Extensions that look as good as new! If your Hair Extensions have suffered any damages from the sun for example discolouration or drying out, then we can recommend treatments or fix any loose bonds, and this will just generally make your Hair Extensions look much better.

#5 AVOID SEA WATER, SUN AND CHLORINE When on holiday, it’s only natural that you want to swim in the clear blue waters, but for the sake of your Hair Extensions, try and avoid getting your hair in the water as much as possible or have them taken out for holiday to give your natural hair a well earned holiday too!

Hair Extensions that are exposed to chlorine and sea water may become dry, tangled and may even begin to discolour, and that isn’t a good look! If you still want to swim and get your hair wet, then the best thing to do is to secure your hair in a manageable hairstyle, such as a braid to stop your hair from being tangled too much. Then wash and condition your hair straight after. You could also consider wearing a swimming cap to try and stop your hair from getting too wet or affected by the water.

Make sure you keep them out of the sun and away from sun screens as this can also discolour your hair! If it does discolour then make sure you purchase some Malibu C Hard Water Sachets as soon as your back and we will send you the HOW TO USE them video and your hair will go back to normal.

#6 HOLIDAY STYLING When styling your hair, you must use a uv filter or heat protection product to add an extra defence to your hair. Our top choice is the VO5 Heat Protection Spray! This will do you hair the world of good.

The ponytail is a good look and works beautifully with long, thick hair extensions. For the perfect sexy ponytail keep it super slick and tie low on the nape of your neck. For a care-free look a thick side-plait says A-lister glamour as you lie by the pool or sip a cocktail with a big floppy hat to protect your locks! In the evening human hair extensions look just fabulous with soft curls and loose waves.

#7 HAIR BRUSH IS ESSENTIAL When you are away, it is absolutely essential that your hair brush travels everywhere with you, especially if you have opted for a down doo for the day.  With the change in climate and the sea air, you will naturally find that your hair becomes a little more unmanageable than usual, therefore having your hairbrush on you at all times will ensure you can keep it under control and tangle free for the day and remember a squirt of heat protection and a little oil will help a huge amount!

#8 LAST BUT NOT LEAST HAVE A LOVELY TIME!
